Welcome August - Dog Days of Summer!

As documented in July post, what a Strange Summer it has been with July's frequent downpours and now sooo Hopeful for a calmer August:

  • creating driveway gullies and finally a long coming decision to resurface the driveway
  • high rushing pond water taking out part of the dam - "Beav" & I are working on repairs
  • water seeping into basement creating "clean-up/throw-out" project 25 years in the making
  • fleet of boats full to the brim with water - lots of "bailing"
  • beautiful lush green grass enjoyed by a new family of wild rabbits
  • mushrooms of various colors/sizes/shapes galore - challenge to beat dogs to picking/discarding into fenced garden - girls are great mushroom hunters and not all are safe to eat
  • lovely colors of flower blooms but limited veggies
  • our Beaver is enjoying "his" full pond and adding an extension to his Lodge
  • Visits by Mallard duck with 2 ducklings, Wood duck mother and 2 ducklings, 3 Merganser ducks diving for tiny Hornpout, 2 Blue Herons fishing the pond edges and diving Otter

Rolling into July - Rain, Rain, Rain!

July has started with lots of rainwater outside (going on 4 days now) and not a drop of water indoors for 2 days (prepared with saved gallons of water for power outages and they filled the bill) - new well pump needed for 2005 Well and human shower never felt so good! Mama birds are busy at the suet feeders as fledglings are brought to the feelers outside the kitchen window and are they vocal! Our wild rabbit has a friend (Oh Oh) and they are out early grazing clover while Golden girls are still asleep! Hummingbirds are also busy at the Nectar feeder and a Spectacular sighting was multiple Hummers feeding at once!

Only a quick second to capture our only wild
Mallard Ducklings this year!

Early morning and Late evening "nibblers"!

We're heading into the last week of July and what a RAINY month it has been (rain gage couldn't hold it all) - the past weekend was non-stop downpours that filled the boats, gully-washed the driveway, roared over the dam, washing out part of it and saturated ground, brought water into the basement - throw rugs are dripping outside and dehumidifier is running non-stop - luckily a lot of  basement stuff has been up on wood boards since a pipe burst many years back!!!

Accumulated downpours rushing over dam and
breeching a section!

Bright spot in this month - Mya and beautiful
Daylilies!

More bailing of boat fleet!

Basement soaked throw rugs drying from week of
downpours seeping thru foundation!

Towing dead trees to dam to fill in "breach"
and the Beaver is hauling branches too!

Filling/grading downpour gullies
in driveway 😲

Took the camera out, while the Golden Girls slept and captured these great photos of Hummingbird feeding at wildflower "Touch-Me-Not"  💖

When the Peddle-boat has gallons of heavy water
that have seeped under floor during a week of
torrential downpours - required pulling boat
upon shore with tractor, pulling plug and gradually
raising it to drain with crowbar and blocks!

Whew, hours later, drained and
"Muscle Sore"!
